Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek has formed a strategic alliance with CTTL (China Telecommunication Technology Labs), currently administrated by the CATR (China academy of Telecommunication Research) of China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), the Commercial Times of China reported on January 19. Through the alliance, both parties will jointly collaborate in the development of mobile phone technologies, product innovation, and testing process for new applications and technologies.

Additionally, the cooperation is also expected to speed up the R&D and testing process for new TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) phones, helping MediaTek launch more mature SoC (System on Chip) platforms designed for use in TD-SCDMA phones. Meanwhile, the MediaTek-China Telecom Technology Labs cooperation is arguably to help MediaTek break into the supply chain of international mobile phone brands, according to the same source.
